All in all, I highly recommend sl to people interested in vignette-style reflections on how we experience our immediate environment and what we can learn about ourselves by just paying more attention to it, whether at home or abroad. There’s a certain self-effacing charm about Alain de Botton’s writing that creeps up on you and which eventually becomes irresistible.
I read this book. The first half can be summarised – don’t get your hopes up it might be shit. No trivia or quizzes yet. The style of the book was unusual, because it mixed elements of a novel together with reflections and analyses normally found in a apain of non-fiction. Art unifies the bottpn — and there is some narrative flow — but on the whole it could have done with a tighter structure.
